The History of Acura
The name Acura was initially announced in 1984. The brand was created to tailor to luxury vehicle buyers. By the end of its introductory year, Acura sold over 52,000 cars and had opened 150 dealerships. The first cars manufactured by Acura were the Acura Legend and Acura Integra. To this day, these models are considered iconic and collectible, as they earned the reputation of being easily maintained while still putting down outstanding track and drag numbers. Well-kept, low-mileage Legends and Integras can sell for $7,000-$20,000 and are said to remain collectors' items for decades to come. Along with that, the Acura NSX was the brand's flagship rear-wheel-drive sports car. Made from 1990-2005 (first generation) and then later from 2016-present (second generation), the NSX was designed by well-known Chief Designer Masahito and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara. It benefitted from an aerodynamic design, innovative styling lines, and input from Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna. It was the world's first mass-assembled vehicle to feature an all-aluminum body.
Today, there are numerous models that carry on the Acura heritage such as the Acura MDX, RDX, TLX, ILX, and, as mentioned above, the 572 HP 3.5-liter twin-turbo second generation Acura NSX.
