Why Are Oil Changes Important?
In short, your car’s engine is made up of a lot of moving parts and to function properly, those parts need to be lubricated with oil. As you drive, the oil gets contaminated with debris, dust, and dirt from the engine and the environment. When it gets too dirty or starts running low, it can’t do its job anymore and needs to be changed. Dirty oil also causes these moving parts to work harder, causing more friction and potentially overheating your engine.
Going too long between oil changes can lead to more expensive repairs later on so it’s best to keep to a regular oil change schedule. And your car will last longer with regular oil changes!
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET AN OIL CHANGE?
That depends on the make and model of your car, your car’s age, and your driving habits. Oil changes used to be recommended every 3,000 miles, but most modern cars can go much longer between oil changes. Depending on the factors above, your car may be able to go anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND A PREMIUM OIL CHANGE?
The difference between these types of oil changes comes down to the type of oil used. A “regular” oil change uses conventional oil, which is derived from crude oil. “Premium” oil changes use synthetic oil, which is man-made. There are also semi-synthetic or synthetic blends, which are a mixture of conventional and synthetic oil.
Many customers ask which is better for their car and for most imports, the answer is semi-synthetic or full synthetic. Again, this depends on your make, model, and model year. Before performing your oil change, we’ll determine which type of oil is best for your car.
